Bikram's class
What is Bikram Yoga?
Bikram Yoga (often referred to as hot yoga), is a series of 26 postures (asanas) and two breathing exercises, suitable for all ages and levels of ability.
Class is conducted in a purpose built heated studio that helps the student to warm up their muscles, prevent injury, promoting a deeper workout and further helps to cleanse the body by flushing out unwanted toxins.
Bikram scientifically designed the 90 minute class to deliver total health by balancing and strengthening every system in the body, helping to prevent illness and injury, promote weight loss and limit the effects
of aging. The series and sequence of postures methodically stretches muscles and ligaments and prepares the joints needed for the next posture. This ensures to further stimulate every organ, gland and system of the body, as freshly oxygenated blood is moved to every part of the body, restoring all systems to healthy working order.
In addition the series of postures develop and combine skills of concentration, patience, determination and self-control that help promote mental clarity as well as reduce stress.
What to bring
Be prepared to bend and sweat! Wear clothing that is flexible and light-weight. We recommend drinking plenty of water before class (at least 2L over the day before), and bringing only a small bottle of water to class with you. We have mats and towels for rental, though many people choose to bring their own – it’s up to you!
In class and afterwards
If you're new to class, set up your mat (which we will provide) in the third or fourth row, so you can follow the lead of more regular practitioners.
You'll want to see yourself in the mirror so stagger your mat rather than place it directly behind the one in front.
Continue to drink water after class to keep yourself well hydrated.
If you feel tired after class it is often because you need to replenish your body with lost minerals and electrolytes. One of the quickest (and tastiest) ways of doing so is with coconut water—a favourite drink among Bikram students.
Bring a piece of fruit to snack on after class as you will most likely be craving something healthy.
Our changing room have showers and hair dryers and you can rent towels if you haven't brought your own. The reception and chill-out area is large enough to congregate in after class and provides you with a chance to meet and exchange your experience with your fellow yogis.
